Humans of FSB recently posted a short story about one of the four founders of SOME, Tomislav Horvat and his motivation in life. You can read the full story here.
“I strongly believe that one of the greatest assets you can acquire at a university is networking, acquaintances with people that enable you to grow. When your friends do something great with their lives that’s what gives you the incentive to go the same way but in a different lane. The goal is to be so successful that when we meet over coffee we’ll talk about our triumphs instead of electricity bills we can not pay. People end up in marvelous places – that is also one of the main ideas that fueled my four colleagues and me to establish Student Organization of Materials Engineering, SOME.”
“I’ve always read a lot. Just some of the books that made their way to me were „The Compound Effect“ by Darren Hardy, „The Millionaire Fastlane“ by MJ DeMarco, „Outliers“ by Malcom Gladwell, „The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People“ by Stephen Covey, „Elon Musk“ by Ashlee Vance… This last one is a biography of the idol of my life, Elon Musk. He actualized the ideal combination: technical and economic excellence. When it happens that you possess a mathematical mind and the ability to manage people you will bring out of them the capacities they didn’t dream of having. There are certain words that make me freeze each time I hear them, the ones he stated in an interview: “I don’t ever give up, I’d have to be dead or completely incapacitated.” When I was younger I was hanging out with people I admired and when I was reading books I realized that I want to be one of them.”
